Sebby is 3! - BBQ Beach Party

For Seb's third birthday he wanted a BBQ beach party. So I bought a load of sand and transformed most of our garden into a mini beach, as you do. It may not look like a lot of sand but it was enough. This stuff is heavy and it was no fun lugging all those bags around. And I am glad we didn't try to cover the whole garden. We would have needed like 3 tonnes of the stuff! And I would have been demanding everyone take some sand home!

For the base, I used a large blue tarpaulin which also doubled as the "sea". Using a tarpaulin is also a great idea if you just want a temporary sandpit without having to buy a sandpit! And at the end of each day you just pull up the sides to use as a cover.

To frame the beach (and to make a divide from the BBQ area) I bought a cute windbreaker with beach huts on it and I found another one in a charity shop. You gotta love charity shops! The "man shed" did not escape my over-the-top party planning. It was painted up like a beach hut. Man, I hated painting this thing. It took forever in between the rain and it got boring fast!

For entertainment, there was digging for dinosaurs.  And sand bucket party favours, with little boxes of goldfish crackers for afters.

To protect the floor I applied some self-adhesive floor protection film. It is like a really wide roll of sellotape. By the end of the night (before), I was a pro at applying the stuff. I am so glad I did this. Because the mats and towels I put down outside did not really keep the sand out of the house. So if you are crazy enough to have a sandy beach party I highly recommend some sort of floor protection!

As usual, I stressed myself out. The main stress being with the weather. It was very unpredictable. Every day I would check the forecast, umming and ahhing about whether to cancel or not. Luckily it didn't rain. And I really didn't have a backup plan, other than to buy the biggest parasol I could find at the local garden centre! But all the stress was worth it, to see Seb and his little friends having fun. And Seb kept coming back for more of my homemade cake! So, all in all, I would say it was a success.

I can't believe my little baby is 3! Such a little dude. Always smiling, chatting and loves his big brother so much. I wish time would just slow down a little so I can take it all in. But time doesn't wait for anyone and now I have to go plan for Harvey's big 5! :D
