Nursery Blues - Week 4

This week has been a big improvement. Less crying and shortened crying! Nursery girls said Harvey was even talking!

Then on Thursday Steve wanted to take Harvey to nursery. I was apprehensive as I didn't want to ruin the good run we are having with any changes but Harvey was fine. No crying this time! But one cry when I went to pick him up.

It must be so traumatic for little ones! It is so traumatic for me! The only way I can describe it is as if you are giving your child away… day after day after day.

If you are settling in your little one to nursery here are a few tips I have found that may be useful to you:

1. Let them get used to the room and people first before leaving them. (I really wished I had done this.)

2. If they have friends in nursery already let them go in together. Have more playmates with the friends and new friends.

3. Let them take something to nursery that helps comfort them. Like a blanket or favourite toy.

4. Don't drag out your good byes. It makes it worse.

5. Don't just sneak out. Let them know you are leaving.

6. Make sure your little one has a "key person".

7. Maybe get the nursery to sing their favourite songs and play their favourite games.

Let me know how you settled your little ones into nursery!
